Rural Health Day

November 17, 2022 was National Rural Health Day! The theme of this year’s National Rural Health Day is “Driving Change / Going the Extra Mile.”

With support from the Premera Foundation, the UW School of Nursing’s Rural Nursing Health Initiative (RNHI) is driving change – you can read about some of our students’ stories in this Premera blogpost: https://healthsource.premera.com/our-perspective/rural-healthcare-brings-challenges-and-rewards/

Stipend Recipient Spotlight

Abel Saba, Washington State University DNP student, was one of 11 UW Premera RNHI stipend recipients to receive a rural clinical rotation in Winter/Spring 2021. In a recent interview Abel shared that the opportunity to learn and practice in a rural community showed him firsthand the “challenges when it comes to access to healthcare and how to efficiently utilize available resources in rural areas”. Additionally, Abel shared that due to COVID he “increased [his] skills in using Telehealth” which will be an asset over the course of his ARNP career. When asked if he had any advice for another DNP student applicant, Abel replied “listen to your patients [and] give patient education in very simple language.”
